Dear Sir:
I write at this late hour to protest your proposal to drive Christian adoption and foster care providers out of business when they are simply affirming the tenets of their faith. Sexual orientation is not a genetically imposed condition as has been demonstrated by the many individuals who have left homosexuality and embraced heterosexuality.
My wife and I have adopted two children. I have also worked for state government as a child protective services worker. I am currently a Counseling Pastor in a Christian church.
If you insist that persons of profound religious conviction cannot be adoptive or foster parents because of their religious beliefs, you will be depriving many, many needy children of the parents they so earnestly desire. The numbers of such religiously motivated adoptive/foster parents absolutely dwarf the homosexual population who desire to raise children.
If you engage in this misinformed social engineering you will bring social chaos upon the Commonwealth of Virgina and the economic costs will be severe for your state because strong families are the foundation of a strong economy.
Sincerely,
Dr. Robert Borger
