The language in this proposed code attacks first admendment rights protecting freedom of religion. Adoption agencies that are operated by religious groups need to be able to continue their operations guided by their religious convictions. Current law allows same-gender couples to adopt through other non-religious agencies. The proposed language in this proposed code would effectively drive many Christian/religious agencies out of the adoption business (as it did in Massachusetts) and be a loss to many children and families. The proposed language is an unnecessary attack on religious liberty.
