Action | Amend Requirements for Carrying Handguns in State Forests |
Stage | Proposed |
Comment Period | Ended on 4/16/2010 |
The Virginia Department of Forestry is currently accepting public comment on the proposed amendment to Virginia State Forest Regulation 4VAC10-30-170, which would allow concealed carry permit holders the ability to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense in Virginia's state forests.
The extensive concealed carry permit qualifications, i.e., testing, firearms training, actual shooting, background check, finger-printing, legal training, and state registration ensure that law abiding citizens are carrying weapons. These individuals could be expected to assist any law enforcement official, when necessary.
Thus, allowing concealed carry in Virginia's state forests is a win-win situation.
I respectfully urge the Virginia Department of Forestry to amend the Administrative Code and to support the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Virginians.
Thank you,
