I support an amendment to Virginia State Forest Regulation 4VAC10-30-170, which would allow concealed carry permit holders the ability to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense in Virginia's state forests.
Of the possible places in Virginia for law abiding citizens to carry, I feel that the state forests would be the most practical. Hikers, campers, and others traveling in remote areas are vulnerable to attack. Criminals don’t follow the letter of the law and carry when and wherever they choose. Having the ability to defend oneself or at the least educating criminals that their next victim in a Virginia State Park could be armed would make our state parks safer for everyone to enjoy.
