Action | Amend Requirements for Carrying Handguns in State Forests |

I urge the Virginia Department of Forestry to allow concealed carry permit holders the ability to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense in Virginia's state forests. I have submited to background checks and always abided the laws of the Commonwealth and the U.S.
The only exception is that I once failed to unload my revolver when I entered the Shanadoah River Park near my home. It did not occur to me to check to see if Virginia restricted concealed carry in our State parks. I later was made aware of the regulation by a friend and have since always complied.
It is inconsistant that one that has met the States requirements and been issued a concealed carry permit is able to have personal protection on State Highways, but not in the Parks.
My other concern is that people leave their unloaded gun and separate amunition in the trunk or cab of their vehical while enjoying the park and it will be stollen. While I do not, some may have stickers on their vehical supporting organizations or their sport that may "target" it for theft.
Thank you for your consideration.
