angry about foodstamp/medicaid benefits in this state

I am one of the disfortunate people that live month to month in VA. My comment has to do with how this program and medicaid works currently. I currently work and rent a room from a friend, however, my daughter's father lives with me. We are not even together anymore, yet I have to count him in my household. (according to law) My problem is simple: jobs in our region are scarce, and the McDonald's I am employed through does not give me many hours. On average I might get 20 hours a week if I am extremely lucky I might get more. My bosses version of encouragement is screaming at you, and now I have to keep my job or loose everything. DSS is convinced we can make ends meet on 500 a month. When I lived in PA, they counted your income and your bills: such as car insurance, cable, bus money (if you used public transportation), electric bill, phone bill (reguardless if it was cell or landline). This determined just how likely you were to be self sufficient. They also called your job to determine if you could qualify for benefits, in which case if you did not, they would continue your medicaid. The entire system in VA is set up for you TO FAIL! If you need to drive to get to work, they don't care. They don't care about a car, payments or not, unless your car is over $2000.00 in which case they tell you to sell it because you don't need help from the state if you can afford a car. I pay $300.00 a month rent + child support, student loan payments, and I have to afford gas for my car to get to and from work. I recently learned I have heart problems, and I also have asthma and other health conditions in which I must have insurance to afford my medications. Insurance for me would cost about $200.00 a month, which I DON'T have, yet I'd better come up with it because my medicaid is being cut at the end of the month because I did the stupid thing and actually got a job. So now not only to I have to keep a job I hate, but I must find another one to survive. I feel that I am being punished for attempting to get off the state system. I am also going to be lucky if I can afford to eat next month.
