Commenter: Energizing Renewable Growth in Holston Valley

Save RGGI and support those first Virginians experiencing the devastation of climate change

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) has provided hundreds of millions of dollars to communities to remediate their infrastructure in the face of climate change. This includes communities flooded here in SWVA recently.

RGGI uses market economics to determine the least efficient fossil fuel plant that must be shut down next. This is a very conservative, market-based approach, to moving towards a greener energy economy. We must recognize that Virginia and all localities must stop emitting greenhouse gases as soon as possible. RGGI's approach is too slow, but it's the best we have right now and the ONLY source of state funding for those Virginians, who are most immediately vulnerable, in the battle against climate change disasters. The devastating floods in parts of SWVA and E KY and the sunshine tidal floods in Tidewater cities and towns are examples of those already suffering from climate change and in need of infrastructure improvements to adjust.
