Regulations for the Control and Supervision of Virginia's Milk Industry [2 VAC 15 ? 20]

On behalf of the Virginia State Dairymen’s Association, I am writing to offer our continued support for the Regulations for the Control and Supervision of Virginia's Milk Industry [2 VAC 15 ? 20]. VSDA offers our strong support for this chapter which is integral to the Virginia Milk Commission. The Virginia State Dairymen’s Association is a member organization that has represented dairy farmers from across Virginia since 1907.

The Milk Commission ensures that Virginians have a constant, available, and reasonably priced supply of milk. This Commission has helped dairy farmers and consumers from across the Commonwealth preserve stable and competitive markets. This Commission serves the consumer foremost which is highlighted in the composition of the appointed board. Four of the members are made up of consumers, two milk producers, and one milk processor-distributor.

The Milk Commission is also vital in implementing the Dairy Producer Margin Coverage Premium Assistance Program which the Commonwealth created in 2021. This important program for dairy farmers from across Virginia is helping to create a more resilient dairy industry. The dairy industry is the third largest sector of the agriculture industry and is an economic engine for local communities.

The Milk Commission plays a pivotal role in Virginia’s dairy industry by working with all parties involved, from producer to processor and consumer. This collaborative approach is what has served Virginia well.

Sincerely,

Eric Paulson

Executive Secretary-Treasurer
