Some have said this new policy is not needed because of the laws already on the books. However, the previous laws do not require prior warning to parents of sexually explicit material (except for the family life curricula). So by the time parents hear about it the kids have already seen it or the parents never know about it. If there is not much sexually explicit material in the schools that parents need to be warned about then it should be pretty easy to let them know of the little that is out there. This new policy will help make sure there is a very good, legitimate reason for having such content in the curricula which is suppose to be teaching children how to read, write, think critically, solve math and scientific problems.
