I oppose the proposed model policies.

These model policies are overly vague and at risk of limiting access to legitimate, non-pornographic material that is useful for educating children and helping them grow into well adjusted adults.

A goal of education is to provide children with a full and broad eduction and understanding of the world. Kids should not be sheltered from learning about history, their neighbors, or themselves in an age-appropriate way as teachers are already doing. The rest of society should not be held hostage by parents who are fearful of people whose lives are different from their own.

Studies show that children do best when parents are involved in their children's education. We should encourage and celebrate this. At the same time, teachers should not be micromanaged and prevented from teaching children about the world.

These model policies are not just about protecting the rights of parents concerned about sexually explicit content. We should also protect the rights of parents and children to learn about topics like civil rights for LGBTQ people without fear of censorship, without fear of being called a pedophile or being accused of grooming children.
