As a parent in VA I believe this is 100% a power grab and I do not support this bill. I trust teachers & librarians (most of which have masters and doctorates degrees) to have the freedom to teach intersectionality, inclusion & equity. I was educated through the Virginia Public School Systems and while I believe they could all use improvement… WE ALL COULD USE MORE EDUCATION IN EMPATHY & UNDERSTANDING. Especially on stances based on gender & race… I agree that certain sexual content shouldn’t be available for K-12 learning. What I am concerned with on this bill is the clear objective to also include the erasure of experience for marginalized people. If you’re going to point fingers and hiss at the book that represents the life experience of a queer teenager coming to understand their identity, but not Disney’s Little Mermaid… there is a lot of bias in your judgement which doesn’t belong either. If you’re worried about the grand standing RED WHITE & BLUE not being painted as the perfect country it is… guess what? It never has been. Please leave teachers to do what they do best, TEACH.
