I am in favor of the standards which would require local school boards in the Commonwealth of Virginia, to make available for parents' inspection, sexually explicit material in advance of instruction. I also am in favor of providing alternate material for their children when requested.
However, I am alarmed that sexually explicit material is being used for any type of instruction in our public schools, especially in the elementary grades! There is a serious trend in our American culture, in which young children are being "sexualized" at an early age, thus making them more vulnerable to abuse and sexual trafficking!
I am also alarmed that those books which contain such offensive material cannot be censored or banned! It is being revealed that some textbooks or library books contain vulgar language and images. The material is so offensive that the text cannot be read aloud in public school board meetings because it violates community standards! Yet those books are being allowed to influence our most vulnerable and impressionable children. Please reverse this dangerous trend in the public schools here in Virginia! Thank-you.
