Senate Bill 656, Model Policies Concerning Instructional Materials with Sexually Explicit Content

As an educator, parent, and future elected official, I support the significantly imperative model policies that seek to protect children from inappropriate sexual content at school. Additionally, these policies respect parents’ right to govern whether their children are exposed to any, and all sexually explicit content.
Moreover, I support that parents have the final say in making these decisions, and that as the primary educators of their children, they are in the best position to recognize what is best and most appropriate for their children.
Please ensure that through this document that there are very specific actions, which every school MUST implement to ensure sexually explicit materials are appropriately labelled, and seen by parents first. Like many other educators and parents, I am apprehensive that, unless specific minimum criterions are explicitly authorized (in contrast to providing paragons or proposals), countless schools may find means to circumvent what they consider to be optional guidelines.
