I am in favor of repealing regulations requiring teachers to mask. How are young children and English language learners supposed to gain an understanding of phonics without seeing their teachers’ lips makes the words? How are students of foreign languages supposed to learn proper pronunciation? Teachers have had access to safe and effective vaccines for over a year. Mandatory masking of teachers carries significant downsides, which outweigh the benefits purportedly provided by universal teacher masking.
