Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

Not in favor

It would be amazing if teachers required  to go through this training could be asked their opinions and in such a way that they could honestly answer without fear.  Anecdotally, there are MANY teachers in our district that do NOT agree with this, but are terrified to speak their voice for fear of retaliation. It is horrible. The cultural competency all sounds well and good in the document however we know that in these times, nothing is as it appears or holds the commonly known meaning. It is all twisted for a particular narrative. Stop this madness and allow our teachers to teach, love, and challenge all students and embrace common humanity!
