Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

CCT is not radical indoctrination. it’s basic human decency and the training should be kept!

Having taken many trainings on diversity, equity, and inclusion, these are certainly not pushing radical ideas. They simply acknowledge the possibility of bias, discrimination, and bigotry that can occur in the workplace, in schools, or in public places, etc. and they lead viewers through ways to acknowledge their own biases/perspectives, ways to recognize discrimination or bigotry, and how to intervene if someone is experiencing discrimination. These are skills all people, including all Americans, should have. If we want a just society, then trainings like these and that of the Cultural Competency Training are one step to getting there, and I would be very disappointed in our leadership if they take this step of progress away.
