Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

More community centered projects and better school environments

We need more opportunities for community growth, education, development and spaces that can open up conversations around race, class, gender, religion and other conversations that are important to have, etc.  Our communities deserve to be informed, deserved to be listened to and deserve these spaces where they can freely voice their concerns or questions. there needs to be youth and senior centres, permanent groups having conversations around different topics that affect us. Career development and trainings, cultural events and gatherings, and an ability to preserve our history, our struggle and being able to empower ourselves. Many of our communities continue getting displaced because of housing prices and there is a lack of public spaces for communities of color to talk about our issues. The fact that we don’t have any chance to give feedback until this website is appalling. . Making sure our heritage is preserved in our schools and businesses despite rising costs of living. There's so much that I wish for our community because I've noticed just how hard it is for South Asians here. The lack of awareness and ignorance around South Asians makes it hard for South Asians to even find space to speak up.  You need to contact community organizers, social educators who are NOT WHITE and include them in creating these curriculums. Do not have white people make the curriculum. FCPS is already so biased in how they treate white students vs  minority and international students.
