Why so Angry?

I admit to being somewhat puzzled by the nastiness, even hatred, expressed in some of the comments from those opposed to Governor Kaine’s suggested healthcare policy change...

What I know is that those who are raging about the “cost” of this suggested change are simply WRONG - EMPLOYEES would have to pay 100% of the cost of premiums for coverage.

What I also know is that those who are raging about this policy being in violation of Virginia’s constitutional amendment on marriage are WRONG too - this plan would limit eligibility to ensure individuals not entitled to benefits will not receive them. In fact, in 2007, our Governor-Elect Bob McDonnell pointed the way as State Attorney General to benefits equity when he allowed the University of Virginia to offer gym membership benefits to another adult sharing a mutual residence with an employee.

This proposed healthcare policy change would make Virginia a more equitable environment in which to live, work, and raise children – not just for some but for many.  The added bonus is that making the state employment system more fair to all will not cost the state anything!

I strongly support this policy and hope the state will move forward to implement it as soon as possible!
