I am happy to see this state finally take a step towards equality for all.  I left a job with the public defender's office after six and a half years of service, in large part due to the fact that I could not include my partner and our son on my health insurance.  I would have gladly stayed in this position and continued to serve the indigent population of this state for many more years to come if such coverage had been available.  Instead, I was forced to leave a job where retention rates are already abysmally low and the need for experienced attorneys is at a premium.  Please, do not continue to lose qualified employees and potential employees due to antiquated notions of what makes a "family."
