I emphatically support Governor Kaine's proposal to extend benefits to domestic partners. This is long overdue, and makes every kind of sense, from fiscal to ethical. In the current economic climate, if Virginia institutions hope to attract -- and retain -- top faculty, it is abundantly clear that this measure is essential. One has only to look comparatively at peer institutions, who have overwhelmingly instituted such policies.

How the opposition voiced here be taken seriously when bigotry is its only real foundation? This is certainly not the road to a better future for this state. May equality, fairness, and good business practices ultimately prevail.
