Commenter: Mayra Andujar, VA taxpayer

Strongly support the change!

I completely agree with this proposal so that state employees can willfully choose to cover an "otherwise qualified adult" at THEIR expense and without cost to other taxpayers.  By implementing this change, the state of VA would bring their public agencies and higher education institutions closer to prevailing benefits and practices of private industry employers.  The state would then be competitive with the private sector not only at the local level but across the nation.  These benefits would enhance recruiting and minimize one of the main problems of the public sector: employee retention.

Changing current imposed limitations and offering expanded benefits to other adults in the household is good for the state of Virginia, neutral to the taxpayers --who are not affected by these changes-- and morale building for many families that currently face discrimination and disadvantages even when they pay all the taxes and dues as any other citizen.

It was about time!  This change is a matter of equality and granting all individuals their human rights and liberties.
