I support this measure. I understand that it allows state employees to PURCHASE AT FULL PRICE (with their OWN MONEY, not tax dollars) insurance for adult members of their households who otherwise would not be covered under existing regulaitons. And yes, it will benefit state employees with same-sex partners. In that respect the proposed change doesn't go far enough. Gay and lesbian Virginians have been painted into a corner by this Commonwealth--they are unable to enjoy the benefits that married heterosexuals take for granted (or accept as a matter of heterosexual privilege) and are routinely condemned for their "lifestyles," whatever that means. All they want is to be able to provide for their partners in times of need. Is that really too much to ask? And while we're at it, why should they have to ask in the first place?
