Expanding health care coverage to state employees this way is a violation of the virginia constitution. Health care benefits are and of right ought to be reserved for the dependants of the employee. Roommates adn housemates are not dependants.
It is ridiculous and not cost effective to expand health coverage to those so loosley attached to the employee. This has the potentional to cost the state an enormous amount of money and change they way people choose to live. It would definitely weaken the family and seems to be a direct attack on it. It would not protect children because it would expand to all adults who choose to share the same house the privilege of health coverage. Children cannot go out and get a job to cover their own health care like adults can. Giving coverage to roommates is unconscionable.
This encourages abuses to the government system. It would definitely encourage people to want to live with someone with a government job. That has the potential to undermind those that provide health care to private business. People would be encouraged to get a big house and live together with their one friend who works for the government. Then the 20 or 30 other people in the house could automatically get coverage. This is outrageous.
