This proposed change is appropriate as a matter of common decency, in an era when many families choose not to marry or are unable to, and is also positive from the practical perspective of helping the state attract and retain the best workforce. This change will bring coverage for employees into line with the practices of so many of the top employers that our governors work hard to bring to the state.
