Founded in 1935, Norfolk State University's mission is to provide an affordable, high-quality education for an ethnically and culturally diverse student population, equipping them with the capability to become productive citizens who continuously contribute to a global and rapidly changing society. The University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the associate, baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees. The University has eight academic colleges or schools and 49 degree programs that operate on one campus. Chapter 19 (ยง 23.1-1900 et seq.) of Title 23.1 of the Code of Virginia.
