| Action Summary | The Board for Professional Soil Scientists, Wetland Professionals, and Geologists (the Board) intends to make amendments to the Regulations for the Geology Licensure Program. Pursuant to HB 1289 (2026 Acts of Assembly, Chapter 462), the Board must promulgate regulations governing continuing education (CE) requirements for professional geologists licensed by the Board. The regulations must require that geologists complete eight hours of CE annually for any license renewal or reinstatement. The regulations must also follow specific parameters regarding requirements for acceptable CE and the computation of CE credits as detailed in ยง 54.1-2208.5 of the Code of Virginia, effective July 1, 2026. As the regulation is developed, the Board will make additional considerations to ensure that the Board can effectively implement the CE program set forth by the General Assembly. The goal of this action is to establish CE requirements for professional geologists as determined necessary by the General Assembly to protect public health, safety, and welfare. The CE requirements are intended to be clear, enforceable, and administered as efficiently as possible. |
