Regulations Governing the Medical Cannabis Program
In accordance with Chapter 732 of the 2024 Acts of the Assembly and Virginia Code § 4.1-1602, the Board of Directors of the Cannabis Control Authority is providing an opportunity to comment on draft proposed regulations for the medical cannabis program considered for adoption.
The proposed regulations have been drafted to conform to the 2024 legislation, which includes but is not limited to amendments to cannabis product expiration dates, changes in pharmacy technician trainee experience requirements for employment, and the confidentiality of certain records and other information of the Board. In addition, the proposed regulations have been drafted to advance public health and safety and conform with nationwide best practices in areas such as tracking, product ingredients, transportation, and advertisements. Virginia Code § 4.1-1602 requires that the Board provide a 60 day comment period prior to adopting regulations related to the medical cannabis program. The Board will consider comments at its scheduled meeting on December 9, 2024.
The Board will receive public comment on these proposed regulations from October 19, 2024 to December 17, 2024. However, commenters are strongly encouraged to submit comments by December 4, 2024 in order to have them included in the Board’s agenda package and adequately considered for the December 9th meeting.
