Purpose of the meeting
PURPOSE OF NOTICE: To announce a public hearing on the Department of Environmental Quality’s public comment summary and response for a “controversial permit” in accordance with §§ 10.1-1184.1 of the Code of Virginia. PROJECT NAME: Mountain Valley Pipeline, LLC; Southgate Amendment Project; Virginia Water Protection (VWP) Individual Permit No. 25-0752. (www.deq.virginia.gov/news-info/shortcuts/topics-of-interest/mountain-valley-pipeline-southgate-amendment) PURPOSE OF HEARING: To provide an opportunity for individuals who previously commented, either at a public hearing or in writing during the public comment period, to respond to the Department’s public comment summary and responses. No new information will be accepted at the hearing. Only responses regarding the Department’s Summary of Comments will be accepted. PUBLIC HEARING: Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex Education and Conference Center; 19783 US Highway 29, Chatham, Virginia 24531. Doors open at 5:00 PM, hearing begins at 6:00 PM, eligible participants wishing to speak must register by 7:30 PM. The hearing will end after the last eligible, registered speaker or 9:00 PM, whichever occurs first. Eligible participants are those who commented, either in person at the draft permit public hearing, or in writing during the draft permit public comment period from October 16, 2025, to December 5, 2025, and included: their name; either their mailing address or email address; and a statement of how they are affected by the pending action. A representative of a petition group, typically the person who submitted the group comment(s), is eligible to respond provided they included: their name; either their mailing address or email address; and a statement of how they are affected by the pending action. If an individual signed a petition, and submitted their name, address or email address, and the petition encompasses how the individual would be affected by the pending action, they are also eligible to speak. Those eligible but who do not get an opportunity to speak may submit written responses at the hearing to the DEQ Contact below, or a designated alternate staff person. IN THE EVENT OF FACILITY CLOSURE: If the public hearing is cancelled due to facility closure (for winter weather or otherwise), it will be rescheduled for Monday, January 12, 2026, at the same time and location stated above.
