| Purpose of the meeting This proposed regulatory action is needed to establish permitting requirements for facilities that discharge or propose to discharge total nitrogen or total phosphorus to the Chesapeake Bay or its tributaries to protect the health, safety and welfare of citizens. The existing general permit expires on December 31, 2026, and must be reissued to cover existing and new facilities. The Notice of Intended Regulatory Action was published in the August 12, 2024 Virginia Register. | |||
