| Purpose of the meeting This is a notice of a workgroup meeting that will be hosted by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) of the Resilience Guidance Document Project-Modeling, Research, and Analysis workgroup and will be open to the public. As part of a grant from the Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program the VIMS, Center for Coastal Resources Management (CCRM) and the Virginia Coastal Policy Center (VCPC) at William & Mary Law School are collaborating with the Virginia Department of Environment Quality to develop guidance for implementation of climate adaptation activities and measures under the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act (CBPA). To support this work, VIMS will provide scientific research, compile studies on the effects on water quality of different remedial approaches to flooding, and assess the sustainability of proposed adaptation actions, natural resource mitigation options and innovative new approaches that may be considered. Stakeholder input on this portion of the project will be provided through a Modeling, Research and Analysis Workgroup. VIMS will generate a 2050 projection of potential tidal features, specifically tidal and non-tidal wetlands, and buffer using current data on shoreline location, wetlands, and shoreline hardening. The analysis will use the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) intermediate high curve for 2050.The workgroup will advise on the analyses using the projections. The analysis will focus on actions which result in changes to current land cover and/or elevation that could potentially impact the extent and location of future tidal features with buffer and the water quality impact from these changes. These actions may include, but are not limited to, elevation altering activities, construction of vertical walls, and earthen berms. Modeled implementation of water quality BMPs will be used to calculate load reductions and assess trade-offs for flood management actions. | |
