| Purpose of the meeting The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold a public hearing on a draft permit from DEQ to address the closure of Pond A at the Celanese Acetate Plant in Narrows, Virginia. This proposed permit was prepared in accordance with and includes requirements of the Virginia Solid Waste Management Regulations. This pond is approximately 7.2 acres and was used for the management of coal combustion by-products. It will be closed in place and covered with a geomembrane cap, synthetic drainage layer and vegetated soil layer. The public may review the draft permit at the DEQ office named in the contact below or at the Pearisburg Public Library, 209 Fort Branch Rd, Pearisburg, VA 24134. The comment period runs from June 13, 2018, to August 3, 2018. | |
