| Purpose of the meeting The Department of Environmental Quality will hold a public hearing to receive comment on a draft permit modification for the Rockbridge County Sanitary Landfill solid waste permit. The County of Rockbridge has applied for a modification to a permit that allows the Rockbridge County Sanitary Landfill to operate an existing landfill near Buena Vista, Virginia. This modification to the permit would allow a 36.2-acre new disposal area, designated as Cells 1 through 4, that consists of a lateral expansion area (22.8 acres) and a piggyback area on Phase 1 (13.4 acres). As a result of the expansion, the total disposal area footprint (Phase 1 and Cells 1 through 4) in the facility is 56.8 acres (excluding piggyback acreage). The modification increases landfill capacity from 2,977,000 cubic yards to 7,093,000 cubic yards and extends landfill operation to Year 2070. In addition, this modification also includes revision to the final closure grades in Phase 1 by incorporating the access road on the landfill. The public comment period begins on May 18, 2016 and ends on July 6, 2016. | |
