Purpose of the meeting
The Department of Environmental Quality will convene a public hearing on a draft permit modification for the Wise County Solid Waste Landfill. Wise County has applied for a modification to a permit that allows the Wise County Landfill to operate an existing landfill in Wise County, Virginia. This modification to the permit would allow the Phase IV expansion of the sanitary landfill to include an additional 14.7 acres, approximately 1,495,500 cubic yards of disposal. This expansion includes associated leachate collection and pumping systems. DEQ accepts comments by e-mail, fax or postal mail. All comments must include the name, address and telephone number of the person commenting and be received by DEQ within the comment period. DEQ also accepts written and oral comments at public hearings. The public may review the draft permit and application at the DEQ office named below. Copies of the permit documents are also available at 206 East Main Street, Wise County Courthouse in Wise, VA, Office of County Administrator, Conference Room 223. The public comment period begins on May 18, 2012 and ends on July 5, 2012.
