These guidelines and rules are published by the Department of Taxation (“TAX”) to provide guidance to retailers and consumers regarding Virginia’s sales tax holiday for clothing and school supplies, provided for by Senate Bill 571 and House Bill 532 (Chapters 579 and 593, 2006 Acts of Assembly). The sales tax holiday will be a recurring event, beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in August of every year and ending at midnight on the Sunday immediately following. This year, the sales tax holiday is scheduled to begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2008 and end at midnight on Sunday, August 3, 2008. These guidelines and rules will be updated in future years as necessary. |
