Regulations Governing the Practice of Psychology [18 VAC 125 ‑ 20]
Emergency Extension Request
(5567)
Action:
Implementation of Psychology Interstate Compact
(9019)
Stage:
Emergency/NOIRA

On 3/24/2022 the board requested that this emergency stage be extended until 1/1/2023.

Reason for Extension:
Chapter 1162 of the 2020 Acts of Assembly mandated the membership of the Commonwealth in the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact and required the Board to promulgate regulations to implement the provisions of the act within 280 days of its enactment. Emergency regulations were submitted on the Regulatory Townhall on July 20, 2020, became effective on January 3, 2021, and expire on July 2, 2022. Proposed regulations to replace the emergency regulations were submitted on the Regulatory Townhall on April 22, 2021. The comment period for those proposed regulations ended March 4, 2022. The Board was required to wait 15 days before action on final regulations, pursuant to Virginia Code ยง 2.2-4013, and therefore could not vote on final regulations at its March 15, 2022 Board meeting. The Board will vote on final regulations at its June 28, 2022 meeting. Therefore, the Board requests a six-month extension to the emergency regulations to ensure the regulatory requirements for implementation of the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact mandated by the General Assembly not expire.

This emergency extension request was approved by the Governor's office on 6/30/2022.
