Stage:
On 12/15/2025 the board requested that this
emergency stage be extended until 9/7/2026.
Reason for Extension:
The proposed stage regulations have been under review at the Office of the Attorney General for over 300 days. Even if the stage were released immediately, the proposed action cannot complete the executive branch review process and complete the required 60-day publication prior to the current expiration date of March 8, 2026. The final stage action likewise cannot be completed before the current expiration date, even if the remaining review of the proposed stage and the review of the final stage is as rapid as possible. The Board may be able to complete the process to replace the emergency regulations with an extension. The expiration of these regulations prior to the effective date of the final regulations will cause a disruption in the ability of the Board to accept compact privileges for counselors to practice in Virginia.
This emergency extension request was approved by the Governor's office on 12/23/2025.
