scope of practice with continuing education/efile

I'd like to propose that as LNTs build upon their expertise and knowledge through taking certification programs such as "Medical Nail Technician Certification" or "Master Pedicurist Certification," they should be granted the opportunity to provide higher level foot and nail care to the population.  This could mean toenail debridement on thickened, or fungal nails, as well as the use of treatment modalities which may or may not include an over-the-counter medication as a primary ingredient.

In the UK, Australia, and Canada (among others), there are credentials which provide training for these types of services, yet here in America we are limited in our scope of practice as nail technicians, even though there are several advanced certification programs available in the US.

Can we add specific language to the Rules and Regulations which grant licensed nail technicians the ability to provide more health and wellness related services with appropriate advanced certifications?

I'd also like to amend the language surrounding the way nail techs are supposed to file the natural nails.  More and more, nail technicians are using the electric file to not only do cuticle work, but also reduce nail thickness and smooth deep ridging. As the language stands, this is technically not allowed, but as the profession advances, so do the techniques, and our Rules and Regulations should reflect that.

Thank you.
