TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
As a fisherman, and business owner that relies on our local waters for my living here in Virginia, I request that the state take action to regulate the distribution and effects of poultry waste.
We have all watched as the water quality in our freshwater streams, rivers and subsequently the Chesapeake Bay have deteriorated. Clearly there are many complex reasons for this deterioration, and no one should be led to believe that chicken farming
is the culprit.
But chicken waste and the phosphorus it creates is a contributing factor to the problem, and without some level of regulation these practices will continue to choke the life from our waters.
Let us seize this opportunity to take a step in the right direction, with hopes that others will follow the example and we can return our great Virginia streams, rivers and the Chesapeake Bay to good health.
