Guidance Document Change: The 2020 Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 753 directing the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to develop guidance standards for social emotional learning (SEL) for all public students in grades Kindergarten through 12 in the Commonwealth. The Virginia Social Emotional Learning Standards were developed in collaboration with an SEL Advisory Committee, composed of educators, community leaders, agency personnel, and parents. The Virginia SEL Standards are aligned with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate and centered in equity. This intentional focus allows the Standards to explicitly teach the skills needed to be “life ready” and to create more equitable learning environments.

Foreign influence in SEL - Oak Foundation and Digital Promise

The Oak Foundation invested in Digital Promise Global’s start-up, providing initial core funding, and currently funds Digital Promise Global’s work on the Learner Positioning Systems (LPS). LPS is bringing together leading researchers across neuroscience, cognitive science and social-emotional learning fields with innovative developers and practitioners to explore and design new models for research-based personalization of learning.

SEL is no cottage industry.  Surveying children under using these VDOE's standards is wrong to do without parent consent.  Watch out for opaque foreign foundations to see if they are funding survey "research" and product development for edtech canned curriculum with SEL standards embedded.

Most parents are far behind the SEL business plan already in motion internationally.  No to VDOE and it's complicity.
