The proposed SEL usurps VA parental authority instead of teaching children subjects that parents delegate to public schools to teach.  It is no coincidence that these SEL standards are being pushed at the same time as "Critical Race Theory" and "Transgender Model Policies." They are part of a deliberate, coordinated effort to completely revolutionize our society into a Godless socialist state and is tragically being done by targeting the hearts and minds of our children. SEL is a form of groupthink that forces our children to adopt a socialistic worldview in place of independent thought and individual critical thinking and reasoning. Group identity is over emphasized and global citizenry pushed. SEL intentionally disregards the value of individuality and Americanism. It promotes hatred of specific racial and religious groups under a hypocritical guise of "tolerance" and encourages contempt for democratic values. I am outraged that these intrusive and subjective standards will permit schools and teachers to determine what laws are just or unjust, what constitutes bias (and which biases are good or bad), or how someone is considered advantaged or disadvantaged. We (parents and other taxpayers) expect VDOE to focus on literacy, computational skills, basic civic and historical knowledge and understanding of factual science and to stop using public schools for this kind of social-political brainwashing.
