As owners and operators of Shenandoah River Outfitters our family has always strived to be good stewards of the beautiful Shenandoah River. We are in a unique position to observe on a daily bases the environmental impact both obvious as well as unsubstantiated sources of pollutants have had on our watershed. Prior to the passing of Poultry Management Act of 1999, we had experienced record flooding. Following the passage of this Act, we in turn encountered extreme drought. These conditions in conjunction with increased levels of nitrogen and phosphorus would logically lead one to conclude that we should do all we can to support efforts to protect our rivers. Since seasonal water levels have moderated, we have observed that these efforts are making a difference. Over the last few years we have seen significant improvements in the health of the river. We have experience dramatic increases in the quantity of fish, the health of the fish and the overall enthusiasm of sports fishermen. Our concern is why reverse the course of these efforts when we are gaining ground.
