DD Waivers: Environmental Modifications, Assistive Technology, Companion Services

12VAC30-122-340. Companion service.

C. Service units and limitations.

6. Companion service shall not be covered for individuals who are younger than 18 years of age.

  • Consideration to include companion services for those served on a DD waiver who are under the age of 18.  These individuals would immensely benefit from this service type in the same way programs like "Big Brother/Sister" benefit the populations they serve.

12VAC30-122-370. Environmental modifications service.

As a registered DD Waiver provider, labor should be all inclusive, whether we choose to subcontract the work or not.

C. Service units and limits.

2. The maximum funded expenditure per individual for all EM service covered procedure codes (i.e., combined total of EM service items and labor related to these items) shall be $5,000 per calendar year for individuals regardless of the waiver for which EM service is approved and regardless of whether or not the individual changes waivers over the course of the calendar year. The service unit shall always be one for the total cost of all EM being requested for a specific timeframe.

12VAC30-122-270. Assistive technology service.

The language below should be combined to use the same language in both sections in order to assist providers in adequately charging for their labor.  Under C1, ONLY item cost and labor are included.  Under D7, it says that shipping, freight, and delivery are prohibited because it's included in provider charge.  So how do we include it in provider charge (D7) if only item and labor (C1) are allowed?  Both should say "labor" or "charge".  If both say "labor", then D7 should be scratched and we should be allowed to charge shipping.  If both say "charge" then C1 needs to allow for shipping to be part of that charge.

C. Service units and limitations.

    • 1. The maximum funded expenditure per individual for all covered procedure codes (combined total of AT service items and labor related to these items) shall be $5,000 per calendar year and shall be completed within the calendar year. The service unit shall always be one for the total cost of all AT service being requested for a specific timeframe.

D. Provider qualifications and requirements.

    • 7. ] Additional charges for shipping, freight, or delivery are prohibited because these services are considered all-inclusive in a provider's charge for the product.
