Please Pass The Poultry Litter Regulation

Dear Jeff,

My name is Camille Nelson. I live in Alexandria 5 blocks from the Potomac River at 329 North Saint Asaph Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Not only do I live by the Potomac and have great concern about pollution in the Potomac, but I also am an avid flyfisherman and fish often in Shenandoah National Park streams, the Shenandoah Valley, and in the Shenandoah River.

I strongly support the regulation of end users and brokers when they use poultry litter as fertilizer. It has already been demonstrated this type of pollution is harmful in the rivers of Virginia and the Chesapeake Bay, and if this use of litter remains unregulated, the future of our rivers is in jeopardy. Please help improve the condition of our polluted rivers and ensure our healthy streams remain so by requiring litter application setbacks from sensitive environmental features and streams, soil testing to guide application rates, application close to crop growning season, and better litter covering practices.

Thank you for your consideration on this very pressing and important issue.

Sincerely,
Camille G Nelson
