I strongly support this well-researched and evidence-based proposal. Public education systems are entrusted with the responsibility to serve all of our students and provide responsive, inclusive, and safe learning environments. Policies that actively support transgender students are associated with higher rates of school attendance, higher academic achievement, and improvements in both mental and physical health. As public entities entrusted with student safety, we should always act with the most vulnerable students in mind. This policy would protect previously vulnerable students and create safer, more inclusive learning environments. As a transgender educator who went through public schools in Texas, this type of guidance would have been life changing for my own personal growth and development. This does nothing but support marginalized students and does not negatively impact any other groups as many of the other comments suggest/imply it would!
