I base my beliefs on science, but as science can be invoked by both sides this will not settled until we first resolve the substantive social questions.
Whether or not it’s believed that gender and sex are two different things is not a matter for public debate and therefore all comments and opinions expressed in this town hall to that fact are besides the point.
Accommodations are made in schools for many reasons that go beyond those covered by a protected legal status. An IEP can be created for a gifted child who has trouble sitting still or for child to take a short break when feeling overwhelmed. If the majority of society, or even just a very loud minority, decide this is coddling and not helpful to children in general we don’t remove the IEP. We do what’s right for the individual child rather than some esoteric societal “I don’t know if it’s true but my gut tells me so and I was raised that way” belief.
For those who argue that accommodating trans kids needs is catering to a small group at the expense of the majority, then they are missing the point of why we have any protected legal statuses and anti-discrimination laws. It is noble for the strong to defend the week and it is patriotic for the majority to defend the rights of any minority.
