I totally agree with the Philippine Nurses of Virginia to amend the regulation 18VAC90-20-210 Section B1 to eliminate the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) Qualifying Examination as a requirement for foreign educated nurses eligible to take the NCLEX-RN (national Council Licensing Examination) . The Credentials Review and the English Language Preoficiency Examination I agree can remain as required.
The United Staes is in the midst of a nursing shortage that is expected to intensify as baby boomers age and the need for health care grows as predicted by AACN, in their Nursing Shortage FAct Sheet, 2007 Report. It is estimated that in 2020, one in three Virginians will not be able to get the health care they need because of the nursing shortage. It is therefore important to eliminate the CGFNS as a barrier to attaining quality care from caring, foreign educated nurses such as the Filipino nurses.
