As a concerned Virginia citizen, I have reviewed the VDOE draft of the policy to fairly accommodate transgender students in our public schools.
While I believe no student should be the object of negative criticism and ill-treatment, I do not think that positive discrimination benefits them, either. Some transgender students may not mind being partially or completely nude in front of binary students of their gender identity. Many others will be more reticent to toilet, dress or shower in view of other students.
To reduce emotional trauma for all students, I request that the policy require adequate numbers of single-person bath, shower and locker areas for use by transgender and binary students who desire privacy. That is the kindest way to manage gender identity issues and the reduction of negative discrimination toward those students.
Thank you.
