I am an absentee (now called 'mail-in') election official in Clarke County.
Mail-in voters who do not choose in-person early voting, or normal voting on the day of the election at the polls, have AMPLE time - more than five weeks - to solicit their mail-in ballot, fill it out and mail it back in so that it arrives no later than 7PM on the day of the election, so will be counted.
Allowing 3-day late ballots with no verification that they were post-marked by election day makes a final mail-in count impossible on election day, placing the results of the election in turmoil, and can only cast doubt on the integrity of our Virginia election system. It would be very destabilizing, and is totally unnecessary.
Please keep the system as it was. It works well for everyone.
