The proposed amendment to allow ballets without postmark to be counted after election day must not be approved.
The unrest today mandates that officials do everything in their power to ensure all voters are enfranchised and know they vote under the same conditions as all others. That necessarily includes the provision that all votes are cast, with evidence of compliance with law, by the same 7pm deadline on election day.
Anything less leads to uncertainty, and uncertainty lends itself to suspicion. We cannot as a society allow uncertainty and suspicion to invade our communities. This is a fundamental responsibility of elected officials, and lends itself to those famous words of the Preamble- "to insure domestic tranquility".
