The Virginia Certified Professional Wetland Delineator (CPWD) license is critical to the development community. This license is entirely distinct and separate from a Society of Wetland Scientist's (SWS) or Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) license. The bottom line is that SWS or PWS certifications require NO training or experience in wetland delineation to obtain certification. Consequently, the CPWD is needed to identify the professionals that have legitimate field experience and can properly assist the development community with wetland delineations.
